Therapy for Medicare Patients in California

Retirement changes the shape of your days, but not always in the way people expect. The loss of a spouse or old friends leaves a kind of silence that doesn't get smaller with time. A health diagnosis changes how you move through the world and who you rely on. And the people who've known you longest — grown children, siblings, the friends who are still around — sometimes see a version of you that doesn't quite match who you feel like now.

None of that is a problem to be managed quickly. It's the kind of change that deserves real reflection, with someone who's genuinely curious about how you got here and won't rush you toward simple answers.

Does Medicare cover this?

Yes. I'm in-network with Original Medicare Part B for outpatient mental health services, including therapy by secure video.

  • No referral is required. Original Medicare beneficiaries can see a licensed psychologist directly.

  • Telehealth is currently covered, including sessions from home.

If you're on a Medicare Advantage plan rather than Original Medicare, your network and coverage rules are set by your private plan, so it's worth confirming with them directly before we begin. Medicare's telehealth rules continue to evolve. I'll flag anything relevant to your specific situation on our first call.

What I work with

  • Retirement and identity — who you are when the role, routine, or title that organized your life is gone

  • Grief — for a spouse, siblings, friends, or the particular loneliness of outliving your circle

  • Health changes — adjusting to a diagnosis, a new limitation, or a loss of independence

  • Family relationships — with adult children, siblings, or a partner, especially patterns that have followed you for decades

  • Making sense of a long life — honestly, including the parts that don't fit a tidy story

How I work

My approach is psychodynamic and attachment-focused, with practical tools woven in. That means we don't only manage symptoms — we look at where the patterns came from and what they've been protecting. For people who have been coping capably for years, that's usually the layer that finally moves.

I'm an active, engaged collaborator. You won't be filling silence while I take notes.

Practical details

• Format: secure video sessions, for adults physically located in California at the time of session

• Also licensed in Illinois and Florida — if you PCS to either state, we can continue working together without starting over with someone new

• Sessions in French are available

• Response time: I personally reply to every inquiry within 24 hours — no intake coordinator

• Availability: I currently have openings
