Therapy for Military Families in California — TRICARE In-Network

You've moved four times in six years. You've solo-parented through a deployment and told everyone you were fine, because what else do you say. You've rebuilt a life from scratch in a town you didn't choose, made friends you'll have to leave, and learned to be the steady one no matter what's happening underneath.

Military life asks people to be endlessly adaptable. Most of the people I work with are very good at it — which is exactly why the cost of it stays invisible for so long.

Do I need a referral?

For most beneficiaries, no. Family members and retirees on TRICARE Select can generally see an in-network provider for outpatient mental health without a referral. TRICARE Prime and Active duty service members do need a referral for civilian care.

TRICARE covers telehealth therapy on the same terms as in-person sessions, and your cost-share depends on your plan and status — active duty family members on Prime typically have no copay for outpatient mental health, while retirees and Select enrollees have standard cost-shares. Because plans and rules change, please confirm your specific coverage at tricare.mil or with your regional contractor before your first session.

What I work with

• Deployment and reintegration — the anxiety of the waiting, and the strange difficulty of the coming home

• PCS and relocation — grief, rootlessness, and rebuilding an identity that isn't only "the one who adapts"

• Pregnancy, postpartum, and fertility — including going through it far from family, or without your partner present. I hold postgraduate training in fertility counseling and specialize in perinatal mental health

• Relationship strain — distance, reunion, and the patterns that predate the military entirely

• Trauma — including the kind that started long before service

• Depression and anxiety — especially the kind that hides behind competence

• Identity and belonging — for anyone raised between cultures, countries, or duty stations

How I work

My approach is psychodynamic and attachment-focused, with practical tools woven in. That means we don't only manage symptoms — we look at where the patterns came from and what they've been protecting. For people who have been coping capably for years, that's usually the layer that finally moves.

I'm an active, engaged collaborator. You won't be filling silence while I take notes.

Practical details

• Format: secure video sessions, for adults physically located in California at the time of session

• Also licensed in Illinois and Florida — if you PCS to either state, we can continue working together without starting over with someone new

• Sessions in French are available

• Response time: I personally reply to every inquiry within 24 hours — no intake coordinator

• Availability: I currently have openings
